You mentioned that you have an 8 week old baby girl who seems to rattle (mucus in the back of her throat) a lot. And you brought this up with your pediatrician, and that's good - that would have been my first recommendation, because they always have the ability to ask you more specific questions, and perform an exam, and make a sure diagnosis. It sounds like everything was good, so that's good news, but you're still left wondering "Why is she rattling?" A lot of babies do rattle, have this rattling sound, especially after feedings, because when they drink milk, it coats the back of their throat, and as they breathe air in and out, it makes it rattle. So this is a possibility. And if it's just happening on an occasional basis, and she's not having difficulty breathing, then it's probably not much to be concerned about, especially if she's happy, and gaining weight, and healthy otherwise, like the pediatrician mentioned. But if you are concerned at any point in time, don't ever hesitate to bring it up with the pediatrician again. Let them know there's been a change in status, or if it's gotten worse, if it's associated with other symptoms. Sometimes babies have reflux, where milk comes back up out of their stomach after they've eaten, and if this is stuck in the back of her throat, that could contribute to the rattling too. You asked a question about a bulb syringe, and whether or not you should stick it in her mouth and try to suck anything out. And only do this if you're not sticking it in her mouth blindly, meaning that if she's coughing and sputtering up a ton of stuff, and you can see it in the pockets of her cheeks, then you can suck it out. But don't stick it into the back of her throat and try to suck stuff out. That could cause her to gag, and throw up, and it could potentially cause injury to the soft tissues in the back of her mouth.
